Glutamine To Develop Muscle
And Gain Strength
Glutamine is the most abundant amino acid
found in muscles. It helps build and maintain muscle tissue and
helps prevent muscle wasting that can go along with prolonged
bed rest and diseases such as cancer and AIDS. Glutamine
supplements may also aid in the recovery of severe
burns.
Glutamine’s unique structure, containing two
nitrogen side chains, consists of 19% nitrogen, this makes it
the primary transporter of nitrogen into muscle cells.
Glutamine alone is responsible for 35% of the nitrogen that
gets into the muscle cell.
Amino acids are the building blocks from
which all proteins are made. Amino acids occur naturally in the
body and the food we eat. The body combines amino acids to make
protein used to build tissues. Glutamine is the most important
component of muscle protein, it helps repair and build muscle.
Rather than directly encouraging the growth of new muscle
tissue, glutamine preserves the muscle tissue that you have
already built.
Glutamine has cell-volumizing effects that
have been shown in several studies. No conclusive studies have
been done to study the effects of L-glutamine supplementation
on weight-trainers. A recent study did show up to a 400%
increase in growth-hormone levels when as little as 2 grams of
free-form L-glutamine supplement was
consumed.
Glutamine also keeps the immune system
strong, strengthens neurotransmitters in the brain, and
protects the liver from disease. When the body is overstressed,
it loses glutamine which needs to be
replaced.
Glutamine has been taken to enhance brain
function as it fuels two of the brain's most important
neurotransmitters: glutamic acid and gamma-aminobutyric acid
(GABA). It also assists in nitrogen transportation and reduces
toxic build up of ammonia in the brain. Glutamine is a
non-essential amino acid that is mainly produced and stored in
skeletal muscle. It helps maintain normal Secretory IgA an
immune substance in the gut.
You muscle breakdown occurs as a natural
occurrence when you train and exercise intensely and when you
don't provide your body with a sufficient amount of protein.
This also happens while you are sleeping. This is part of a
natural process your body goes through. Glutamine is possibly
the most important in the development of building muscle and
gaining strength.
Glutamine is found naturally in foods such as
poultry, dairy products, beans and fish. To ingest the
recommended amount for body building and muscle building, you
may need to take it in powdered form as a nutritional
supplement or in capsules, acid-resistant slow-release
microcapsules, or in a reconstituted liquid. Hard core
bodybuilders consider glutamine as one of the best out of all
their muscle building supplements.
